Love Letter Handout!
Series Description:

In order to provide support to teachers and students during this extended break from school due to the COVID-19 virus, Laurel has developed an online poetry series, “Writing With Auntie Laurel.” Based on her 11 years of experience as a teaching artist and extensive research, Laurel has developed curriculum specifically tailored to online learning. With the guidance of video lessons, students will learn about key poetry concepts and write their own poems.

Each lesson is paired with a video detailing a hands-on art project that relates to the learning goal of the lesson. For example, students will learn about similes and then make a card for a family member featuring the simile-poem that they wrote.

Lesson topics include: sensory details, figurative language, point of view, and character development. Scroll down for a library of online learning resources appropriate for children.

Dear Auntie Laurel

Hello, thank you for making those awesome videos of yours. It's been fun watching them. It's really inspiring to watch them and to create them so you know your super star in my eyes helping everyone out. Oh and by the way I need to tell you that my favorite video of yours is the personification one because I've been feeling a lot of emotions because of quarantine.

Dear Auntie Laurel,

Mahalo for all the videos that you made for students in this pandemic you always make learning fun with your smile. I hope you are doing well in this Covid -19. One of my favorite videos is the five senses videos, two of them actually. Thank you for the help you’ve been giving us here at home and in the hawaii art museum. Your house is gorgeous by the way. Much love from the Voyager Ohana.

Much Love,
Hailey Kehaulani
